Content is the primary concern—your writing must be interesting
Clarity is the key for making your writing interesting—your writing can’t be interesting if it’s not clear
(The introductory paragraph, the logical sequence of the paragraphs, and signals to the reader about that paragraph logic are the keys to writing with clarity)
Specific detail is the easiest way to make your
writing interesting
Distractions subtract from “interesting”
The key to minimizing distractions is to proofread
slowly
Content can make up for distractions, so don’t write simply to avoid distractions
Think of writing in 4 steps:
Planning: use questions to “fill the well”
Composing: write quickly after the basic plan is in
place
Editing: put yourself in the place of a new reader
Proofreading: read slowly and out loud
